Loop Alternative

A Loop Habit Tracker alternative for every device

Loop is a fine Android app. If you want the same quiet habit tracking on a laptop, an iPhone or a shared computer, HabitCove runs in the browser and syncs across all of them.

Side by Side

HabitCove and Loop Habit Tracker

Loop and HabitCove agree on the important thing: habit tracking should be calm and free of noise. They differ on where it runs.

Why people look for something beyond Loop

Loop only runs on Android. The moment your day involves a work laptop, an iPad or an iPhone, there is no version of it to open, and the habits you tracked this morning are on a device in another room.

The second reason is that there is no account behind it. That is a genuine privacy advantage, and it is also why your data does not appear on a second device unless you export a file and move it yourself. If your phone is lost, so is the history you did not export.

The third is scope. Loop tracks habits, deliberately and well. It does not hold the weekly goals, the longer-term plans or the small daily tasks that sit around those habits.

What HabitCove does differently

HabitCove is a website that behaves like an app. Open habitcove.com on any device, sign in, and your habits are there. On a phone you can install it to your home screen, and it opens full screen like any other app. On Android there is also a HabitCove app on Google Play, signed in to the same account.

It keeps working when the connection drops, and catches up when you are back online — so a train journey or a patchy signal does not cost you a check-in.

Alongside daily habits it holds weekly and monthly habits for the routines that don't happen every day, weekly and monthly intentions, a dreams journal for long-term goals, and a daily to-do list.

When to stay with Loop

If you use Android and nothing else, want a free app with no account at all, and value being able to read the source code, Loop is a genuinely good piece of software and there is no reason to move.

HabitCove makes sense when your day spans more than one device, when you want your history backed up rather than living on one phone, or when you want the goals around your habits in the same place.

Process

How HabitCove Helps

1

Export from Loop

Loop can export your data to a file. Keep it, so you have your history whatever you decide.

2

Add your habits

Recreate the habits you actually kept up with. Most people find that is fewer than they had.

3

Install it to your home screen

Open habitcove.com on your phone and add it to the home screen. It then opens like any other app.

format_quote

"The best habit tracker is the one that is open in front of you."

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does HabitCove work on iPhone and desktop?

expand_more

Yes. It runs in any browser, so iPhone, iPad, Windows and Mac all work, there is an Android app on Google Play, and your habits sync across all of them. Loop Habit Tracker is Android only.

Is HabitCove open source like Loop?

expand_more

No. Loop is open source under the GPLv3 licence and anyone can read its code. HabitCove is closed source, but you can export all of your data to a file at any time.

Does HabitCove work offline?

expand_more

Yes. You can check in without a connection and it syncs when you are back online. And if you would rather your habits never leave the phone, as with Loop, the Android app's Offline mode keeps them only on the device.

Is HabitCove free?

expand_more

There is a free plan covering 4 habits, 3 dreams and 3 to-dos a day, with no card needed. Oak, which removes the limits and adds the full-year heatmap and restoring backups, is $1.49 a month or $14.99 a year. Exporting your data is free on every plan. Loop is entirely free.
